Moving towards a more sustainable future
At R & L Slaughter, we believe that doing business responsibly means looking at the impact we have today and taking action to make things better for tomorrow.
As we celebrate our 70th year, we’re proud of how far the business has come and are looking ahead to the future with the same commitment to doing things the right way. As part of that commitment, we’re taking practical steps to reduce our carbon emissions and work towards net zero by 2050, in line with the UK Government’s target.
Our Carbon Reduction Plan gives us a clear starting point and a practical roadmap for the years ahead. Our baseline assessment for April 2025 to March 2026 recorded 62.15 tCO₂e across our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, providing the benchmark against which we can measure our progress.
And we’ve already started making changes.
We’ve replaced our lighting with energy-efficient LED alternatives and switched two company cars to electric vehicles, helping us reduce energy use and move towards a lower-carbon fleet.
But this is just the beginning.
Over the coming years, we plan to continue investing in our fleet, explore renewable electricity through a green energy tariff and broaden our measurement of Scope 3 emissions. Our target is to reduce our carbon emissions by 13% over the next five years, taking us closer to our long-term net zero ambition.
We know that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from making better choices, measuring our progress and continuing to look for ways to improve.
